So apparently Italy doesn’t do folky/indie music. I had an adventure yesterday and found the record store where they said so. I bought a couple of Italian records for people and a cd for me. I asked if there are any venues, and the guy said that the venues are all closing for summer break. I found one show going on, but it was for last night and I had already spent so much time walking and missing busses that I wasn’t about to go on another adventure to the otherside of town and then have to figure out how to take a taxi back all alone.

Also yesterday we went into a restaurant for lunch and they didn’t speak much English so they just gave us all pizzas. big. pizzas. one for each of us…

One for each of us.

One for each of us.

Today we had a mission to get to the english church for mass, however there was a big cycling race going on all through downtown, where the church actually was. We got there on time, but coming back we had to walk since most busses weren’t running anymore. We walked along the river for a bit, it’s actually moving you guys…

Unlike Tempe Town Lake*not really a lake, this river moves.

So while my roommates ran to catch our bus, I got distracted by the market and had another little adventure. I people-watched. Saw some wolf shirts, some iron maiden shirts, lots of “Prada,” and not much that I really wanted to buy. Almost every vendor selling new clothing had the same exact stuff, which was really really odd. While walking to catch the tram back I noticed this interesting poster:

Vota Comunista!

Vota Comunista!

And then on the tram:

Violin and guitar and singing various songs in Italian

It made me miss the Lightrail…”Take the lightrail, yeah, yeah. Take the lightrail yeah, yeah. Take the lightrail yeah yeah, Wherever you wanna go.”

Then I just got home to do homework.

Tomorrow we go to Forum Boarium, Sant’Omobono, San Nicola in Carcere, and Tiber Island for my Archeology class. Then I have to not fall asleep and really try to understand this anthropology mindset. I’m still trying to feel that class out. I’m also hoping to get to the market before we go to class because when I get out of class everything is closed for afternoon and the food markets don’t open again after 4.

Also I took a ton of pictures on Friday, but the internet speed here feels like dial-up and there are about four computers hooked up to it at any one time so uploading pictures is a pain. Also I’m trying to figure out the best way to take pictures that will post small and clear on the blog.  I will try to make a Tour of Rome series of posts later.

And by the way, the title is a lyric stolen from Stellaluna’s song Fuck Yeah, which she just posted on her Myspace. You should give it a listen.
